October 2024 Newsletter
Hi Everyone
Entries are already going in for the upcoming Blue Lake 1000m Regatta which is a great introduction to the sport and we look forward to seeing the Novices having their first taste of real competition.
Boat Loading will be Friday 1st November from 3:30 pm. As this is the first time for many it will take a couple of hours while the older rowers show the processes required to put all the equipment on the trailer. More information will be sent out ahead of the regatta which will be particularly useful to those new to the sport. If you have experience towing long loads please let us know as we will require people throughout the season to take the boat trailers to regattas.
We are currently awaiting the results of our funding applications for two new coaching boats and a boat trailer. New oars have been ordered and should be arriving in the next two weeks.
A slightly different Newsletter to finish October with a wrap up of the recent Masters Champs. Thanks to Dave for putting this together. Any adults who would like to try masters rowing please let Dave know or come down on a Sunday at 8am to try rowing.
The past few months have been quite active for the Tauranga Masters team. We’ve had the Legions North Island regatta and the New Zealand Masters Nationals. With the Nationals, attracting over 400 competitors from 27 to 92 yrs young, being the end of the Masters competitive season.
In both regattas we rowed in Tauranga teams and composite teams with new and old friends from Cambridge, Taupo and St George clubs.
- For the Legions we achieved:1st recreational mixed Double (first medal for Bex!), 2nd recreational mixed Double (composite with Taupo), 2nd Womens novice Double, 2nd Mens new masters Double.
- At Nationals we achieved.2nd mixed quad (composite with St George), 3rd mixed double (composite with Taupo), 4th Mens quad (composite with Taupo)
Another highlight was an invite from Taupo Rowing club for Bridget & David to join them at the Orewa surf rowing beach sprints. This was a fantastic day with a 250m sprint row through the surf to a turning buoy, then sprint row back to the shore. A medal was achieved in the Masters Men’s double, and the mixed masters Quad.
So to all the mums, dads, and grandparents of school rowers at TRC, please get in contact with us (0275 329 161) and give Masters rowing a try. Our contingent covers men and women from 29 to 78 year, from those that have been rowing a few months to those that have enough years under their belt to give you some quality coaching.
Summer is coming and there will be opportunities and events for all ages and abilities from November to June. The mix between social and competitive will be what fits you best, there is no requirement to compete, but there is a requirement to have fun and make some new friends.
As always a huge thank you to all parents, teachers, coaches, and rowers for supporting our wonderful rowing club.
